Schanzenfest on 9th September 2023

Climate Flight Europe – the dirty paradise

The Schanzenviertel street festival is going to take place on Saturday 9t September, as usual, self-organised and without permits. There will be a non-commercial residents’ flea market, solidarity stalls, live music and action against the exportation of climate change’s consequences and the sealing-off of  EU’s external borders for people trying to escape these consequences. The political focus will be on Climate – Flight – Europe.

We have invited activists from CNI (Indigenous Congress) from Mexico. They will inform about local protests on the festival’s main stage at a meeting. This will be the opening event of a Europe trip of representatives of indigenous communities subjected more and more frequently to repression, paramilitary attacks and low-intensity warfare to enforce mega-projects.

On the same weekend, the Hamburg Cruise Days are going to take place. „the city again becomes a stage for the glittering world of cruises. The world’s most beautiful cruise festival is back “ Announced as the dirty holiday industry’s trans-national marketing event sporting „stunning ships and a lavish, engaging programme along the waterfront, including Blue Port Hamburg and spectacular event highlights like the Grand Parade on Saturday evening. AIDA Cruises is again the event’s Premium Partner“. We, on the other hand, are looking forward to our celebrations, climate protests and autonomous movements becoming the uninvited premium partners.

Furthermore, we want to pick out Hamburg Harbour as a hub for global exploitation technologies and as the cruise terminal to doom. Companies like Siemens and Deutsche Bahn present a green image in Germany while participating in rainforest exploration and destruction by mega projects. We are neither pursuing „green“ capitalism nor appealing to governments, but stand in solidarity by all worldwide social struggles.

The Schanzenfest is not a ready-made event. It is a changing and diverse location of neighbourly and solidary togetherness, movement and political action. The festival thrives on anything being contributed and organised by all of us. Start preparing, tell your friends and show up!

Together in the streets on 9th September – against the dirty paradise!
